The Pioneer B20, every Pioneer 8 speaker in the PE catalog is a B20 something.
Folded Horn Speaker Design Plans Full Range WhizzerAre we talking about the full range whizzer cone model I am fascinated by the designs on the frugal horn site. What is the attraction of these designs besides their looks What kind of SQ do you get out of this type of speaker The freq response graphs on the plans stop at 1000 HZ.What other qualities compensate for the poor FR I am knee deep in speakers, I dont think I will be doing any of these designs, but I am interested in any opinions.![]() ![]() I chose the Pioneer to be an economical choice for a proof of concept. I know there are others better qualified to answer your questions. The frequency responses provided in the Frugal Horn site are from Martin Kings worksheets. They are simulations for the response one can expect from a particular cabinet. Above that frequency the enclosure has little effect on the output.as far as the simulation is concerned. The use of whizzers can be likened to old technology.an attempt to get extended frequency response from one driver. ![]() I can say there is a consensus that the Pioneer is better off without them and let the high frequencies be provided by a dedicated driver. The Pioneer offers a smooth roll-off with increasing frequencies.one that is suited to match a tweeter with a first-order electrical roll-off. They sound bigger. Everything except the port response is the same as if it were a box. What comes from the horns gives the illusion of a larger sound field. It is less of a mental leap to hear the band or orchestra before you, rather than speakers. Sound coming from these 90 dB efficient speakers is less compressed or limited (congested) than 84-82 dB speakers. I hope you get to hear something like these to understand better. I have been on that site too and plan on doing something like you have. It is nice to have your experience to give me some confidence to do so.
